Research in Environmental Radioprotection
The main projects in the field of Radiological Protection applied to the environment at the Environmental Radiometrics Dept. are:
- Distribution of natural radionuclides, rare earth and trace elements in the production of phosphate fertilizers in Brazil;
- Characterization of stockpiled phosphogypsum in Brazil and evaluation of its environmental impact;
- Application of stockpiled phosphogypsum in agriculture and as a potencial building material;
- Environmental contamination by Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material – NORM.
